Hi and Happy New Year! Welcome to 2012!! I was introduced the other day to a neat concept, its called DINOS: Dogs In Need Of Space. The lady who writes about this concept is Jessica Dolce, she calls herself a Professional Dog Wrangler and lives in Maine, USA. It really hit a high note in my head as she touches on things that often bother me while out walking. I'm out there walking my own and other peoples dogs almost everyday. I do not appreciate extendable leashes, nor do I appreciate loose dogs both for a multitude of reasons, and if you ask Matt I'm sure he'll say the same. I don't often let people I don't know touch the dogs I'm walking whether the dogs I'm walking are super friendly or not, again for many reasons but the biggest is that I don't want my clients to be injured, either bodily or mentally. These statements may make me sound like an "unkind" person, but my very first job is to keep my family and my clients safe and I believe that's more important than anything else. Jessica Dolce discusses these problems on her blog http://notesfromadogwalker.com, she says things and shares stories in a way that I'm not eloquent enough to say! If you get a chance read her blog, especially the entry from January 4, 2012. It really makes you think. I think I'll be visiting these "stories from the sidewalk" often and I hope that you get a chance to read her blog too! Got a question - email me at julia@needsomesun.com.
